A MERICAN pop
starlet Ashlee Simpson has denied she's Emo's Yoko Ono.
The
23-year-old singer, sister of Jessica, is engaged to Pete Wentz
from Fall Out Boy.
But last year there were reports Pete's bandmates didn't like her
and his female fans have given her a hard time.
Any
problems with Fall Out Boy, such as a delayed tour, are blamed on
her, with some even accusing her of being the reason for the band's
lack of Grammy nominations.
Like
Yoko, who was blamed for breaking upThe Beatles, it seems Ashlee
can do no right in the eyes of the Emo faithful.
But
does she think she's the new Yoko?
She
laughed: "No. And the band are all very sweet guys. I'm pretty
good at going on the road with him. Cleaning stuff up and being
the good little girlfriend. We watched movies. Everybody likes to
go to the front and hang out watching CNN."
The
pair have been dating since October 2006 but it seems nearly two
years together isn't enough for the Emo fans who fancy Pete.
Now
they are getting married although there are the memories of Ashlee's
big sister, Jessica, whose wedding was turned into an MTV reality
show, Newlyweds, only to split from husband Nick Lachey after just
three years.
Ashlee
admitted: "People ask about it and I kindly answer but we have
our own relationship. And there will never be a reality show."
So
Jessica's divorce hasn't put you off marriage?
"No, no," she said quickly.
"Marriage hasn't been something that I've thought about all
the time. Like, I've never really thought about being Cinderella
but I have a dream of being with the same person for the rest of
my life and, of course, having a family. I have a dream of love
lasting forever."
About
to release her third album, BittersweetWorld, Texan Ashlee's two
previous albums, Autobiography (2004) and I Am Me (2005), reached
the UK top 40 but went to number one in the US.
Her
singles have done better in the UK, with Pieces of Me in 2004 going
to number four, La La going to number 11 and Boyfriend going to
number 12 in 2005.
Her
new single, Outta My Head (Ay Ya Ya), is out on May 19 and is an
electro-pop anthem - a cross between Gwen Stefani and M.I.A. and
produced by Timbaland.
A
dazzling mix ofbeats and guitars, Timbaland also worked on half
the tracks on the new album, including Murder, Can't Have It All
and Rulebreaker, while the rest were produced by The Neptunes' Chad
Hugo and Ethiopian synth-hop savant Kenna.
Ashlee's
run-in with Fall Out Boy fans isn't the first time she's felt criticism.
In
2004, she was caught lip-syncing on America's hugely popular Saturday
Night Live show.
Afterwards,
she claimed she was having problems with her voice and has since
sent herself up on the show.
But
it dented her image and, in 2006, Ashlee proved she could sing by
playing Roxie Hart in Chicago in London's West End.
She
said: "It was great doing that and it was a good place to shine
in something a little bit different.
"You
know we all have slip-ups and I don't look at myself and regret.
I don't think I have anything to prove, despite the SNL thing."
Two
years ago, after speaking out against plastic surgery, Ashlee left
herself open to more criticism when she had a nose job.
Now
she says: "I think it's a personal choice and there should
be a lot of thought behind it. It's very much a case of to each
their own."
Ashlee's
Outta my Head (Ay Ya Ya) is out on May 19.
Bittersweet World is out on May 26. |
